Marcy D. Deaton is a Senior Associate General Counsel in the Academics, Finance, Students, and Athletics Group in the Office of Legal Counsel at the University of Kentucky.  She has thirty-three years of legal experience in private practice and public service, including twenty years at the University.  In her current position she advises the University in the areas of higher education law and regulatory issues, University Governing Regulations and Administrative Regulations, faculty employment, student and graduate student matters, accreditation requirements of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).  She also serves as a University hearing officer for various administrative hearings. 

Prior to joining the University of Kentucky, her professional focus was workers compensation law.  She served as an Assistant General Counsel for the Kentucky Department of Workers Claims and as the Chief Legal Counsel for Kentucky Employers Mutual Insurance (KEMI).  She began her legal career in private practice at the Lexington, Kentucky law firm of Rosenbaum and Rosenbaum, P.S.C.

A native of Paintsville, Kentucky, Marcy received her undergraduate degree from Transylvania University, B.A. English, 1986.  She studied government and politics at the American University in London, England, 1984.  She graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law and was admitted to the Kentucky Bar in 1989.
