Johann Herklotz

Senior Associate General Counsel

Johann F. Herklotz is a Senior Associate General Counsel in the Office of Legal Counsel at the University of Kentucky.  He has thirty-three years of legal experience in private practice and public service, including five years with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, where he twice served as General Counsel.  In his current position he advises the University regarding claims against medical providers and provides representation in depositions.

Prior to joining the University of Kentucky, his professional focus was on defense of medical negligence claims, defense of governmental entities, and appellate cases. He has successfully argued many cases before the Supreme Court of Kentucky, resulting in four published opinions from that court. He began his legal career in private practice at the Lexington, Kentucky law firm of Piper, Wellman and Bowers.

A native of Bellevue, Kentucky, Johann received his undergraduate degree from Eastern Kentucky University, B.A. History, B.A. Chemistry, 1987.  He graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law and was admitted to the Kentucky Bar in 1991.
