Amy W. Saunders is Deputy General Counsel for the University of Kentucky and serves as General Counsel at UK King’s Daughters Medical Center (“UK King’s Daughters”) in Ashland, Kentucky.  During her tenure at UK King’s Daughters, Amy held various positions within the organization, including Litigation and Insurance Manager, Medical Staff Coordinator, and most recently Assistant General Counsel prior to her promotion to General Counsel in June, 2022.

As Deputy General Counsel for the University and General Counsel for UK King’s Daughter, Amy provides legal guidance and assistance to UK King’s Daughters’ strategic and Medical Staff leadership on a variety of issues including regulatory matters, licensing, risk mitigation and management, corporate and administrative matters, medical staff bylaws, credentialing and privileging, human resources, practice administration, and insurance.   In addition to her duties for UK King’s Daughters Medical Center, Amy also provides legal guidance and assistance to UK King’s Daughters’ subsidiary corporations, including its long term care facility, day care operations and ambulance service. 

Immediately prior to joining UK King’s Daughters, she was a litigation paralegal at VanAntwerp Attorneys, LLP in Ashland, where her experience centered on medical malpractice defense, insurance defense, and employment law defense. Prior to that, she spent nearly 10 years at Tyree, Embree and Associates, PLLC in Teays Valley, West Virginia, where her experience centered on wrongful death, personal injury, and domestic relations matters as well as firm management.

Amy was born in southern West Virginia but spent the majority of her life in Ashland.  She received her undergraduate degree from Eastern Kentucky University.  She earned her law degree is from Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law.
